A Vitriolic Response to “The 50 Funniest People Now”: Volume 2

Picking up right where we left off…

40) Paul F. Tompkins

Hey, it’s our first Alt Comic! Yeah!  He’s super funny because he does shoddy impressions of dead authors, wears eccentric suits, and…wait for it…has a mustache.

Again, I will put my personal views aside and admit that he’s fine right where he is.

39) Maria Bamford

ATP New York 2008 - Day 1

Guy at Rolling Stone: “Isn’t she the woman with the voice that sounds like she was molested as a seven-year-old?”

Other guy at Rolling Stone: “Yeah, but she was on an episode of Louie.”

Guy at Rolling Stone:  “Really?! Then sign her up!!!!”

38) Patton Oswalt

He’s the cute pudgy guy from a Pixar movie but has somehow retained his indie cred.  I like him.

37) Scott Aukerman

I think this guy is a mastermind but definitely not a comedian capable of doing anything on his own.  Yes, he hosts Comedy Bang! Bang! and started the podcasting empire Earwolf, but I’ve yet to laugh at anything he’s said.  His guests are funny. He is not.

However, props to starting a great brand and getting a lot of funny content onto the interwebs.

36) Kristen Schaal

With a face and voice like hers, it’s no wonder she’s a comic.  She didn’t have any other choice.

35) David Letterman

34) Michael Ian Black

I think this might be the only person on this list that is exactly where they should be.  A member of the legendary sketch group The State, Black’s humor is sometimes too out there for me (i.e. Stella) but his Twitter feed is consistently solid.

33) Nick Offerman

The only reason most people still watch Parks and Recreation, Ron Swanson is perfectly realized by Offerman and is clearly one of the best characters on television.

32) Bill Murray

This is supposed to be a list of the funniest people right now.  If this article were written in the late 80’s my only qualm would be that Murray wasn’t further up the list.  However, the last chuckle I got from Murray was when he turned downed Ghostbusters 3.

Oh yeah, and pushing people into sand traps at Pebble Beach.

31) Tom Scharpling and Jon Wurster

Apparently they’re awesome.  Cool.  No judgment here.

Give me a piece of your mind in the comments section.

    Had a good laugh there.
